The Zoom Tool changes the scale of the map. You can zoom in or out by a fixed amount, or zoom in on a specific part of the screen.
To select the Zoom Tool, do the following:
- View a map
- Then, do one of the following:
- On the , point to , and click .
- Press Z.
- Click the button on the Map toolbar.

Zooming in
To zoom in, click on the map.
The map will be redrawn at twice the current resolution. The map will be centered on the point where you clicked.
Zooming out
To zoom out, do the following:
- Hold down the Alt key. The cursor will change to

- Click on the map.
The map will be redrawn at one half of the current resolution. The map will be centered on the point where you clicked.
Zooming in on a portion of the screen
To zoom in on a portion of the screen, do the following:
- Drag the Zoom Tool over the portion of the map you want to enlarge. The cursor will change to

- Release the mouse button.
The portion of the screen will be enlarged to fill the map window.
Quickly switching to the Move Map Tool
To switch to the Move Map Tool, hold down the Ctrl key.
Showing the Shortcut Menu
To show the Shortcut Menu, right-click on the map.
If an item is selected on the map, the Shortcut Menu for that item will be shown. If nothing is selected, the Map Shortcut Menu will be shown.
